Skylight Quartet Bios
Robert Vander Leest
Robert sings first tenor for Skylight. He listens to many types of music, but really enjoys the special vocal blend in four-part harmony. Robert, along with his wife, Khela, and their three children, reside in West Olive. Robert works in the Graphic Services department at Spartan-Nash headquarters.
Robert enjoys reading, spending time with his family, and singing many types of music! His love of music extends beyond Southern Gospel as he has sung with various praise teams, jazz ensembles and the Grand Rapids Singing Hims’ Men’s Choir.
His prayer is to bring God's message of hope and salvation through music to those who need to be lifted up and a message of salvation to those who might not know Christ.
Kurt Vander Loon
Kurt Vander Loon is Skylight’s bass vocalist. He has a long heritage in Southern Gospel music and attended the prestigious Steve Hurst School of Music. He is the owner of a promotional business in Jenison, Michigan with his wife Trish, who he calls his "Gift" from God. Together they enjoy traveling, boating, hunting, and spending time with family.
Kurt considers it a privilege to share the gospel message on behalf of the Lord and enjoys the blessings received from worshipping with fellow believers. Kurt’s gift of encouraging others to use their God-given talents toward furthering the kingdom is a passion he takes very seriously in his everyday life and music.
Rob Schrock
As Skylight's resident baritone and a founding member of the original quartet, Rob travels the US and Canada as National Sales Manager for a top building materials corporation. He enjoys meeting fellow southern gospel enthusiasts and the brotherhood he shares with the other Skylight members.
He is part of a great family of musicians and is also an alumni of the Steve Hurst School of music. He looks forward each week of having the opportunity to share Christ's love in song with those who don't know Him as personal Savior.
Rob and his wife Linda reside in Baldwin, Michigan. They have four children and nine grandchildren. Rob enjoys spending time with his family along with all outdoor sports.
Mike Looney
Mike has been with Skylight for the past 7 years as lead vocalist. He attended and studied music at Liberty University and has sung throughout the US and Canada. During 2021 Mike will celebrate 50 years singing gospel music.
Mike loves all things sports, especially baseball and hunting. Like the rest of the Skylight guys, he puts a high priority on family especially his 10 grandchildren. He and his wife Mariann reside in Cascade, Michigan.
His prayer is that the Skylight will continue to share God's message of love and hope to a world longing for peace and contentment in Jesus.
